Application Criteria

There are 3 broad categories we consider in the application process.

1. Demographics

  • Income: We primarily serve families who normally would not be able to afford a private, Christian education. We are committed to having at least 70% of our students come from households that meet low-income guidelines. Families from other income brackets are welcome to apply. We are also committed to serving a socioeconomically diverse student body.

  • Location: Most of our families live in Denver Harbor and the Fifth Ward, but we accept students from the entire Houston metro area.

  • Ethnicity: We are committed to serving an ethnically diverse student body.

2. Commitment

  • Having a student at Harbor Christian Academy and being a part of the HCA community requires a great deal of commitment from both student and parent.

3. Readiness

  • Academic Ability: Because we hope to graduate students who are ready for college and the job world, every student is expected to perform within a rigorous academic environment. We work with students from all backgrounds to ensure academic success.

  • Behavior: As a ‘no excuses’ school, we believe a child’s education is enhanced by a disciplined and orderly environment. We expect our students to reflect order in their appearance and interactions, and we vigorously promote the biblical virtues of kindness, reconciliation, politeness, respect, and self-discipline.

Steps to Apply

  1. Submit an application online or bring a hard copy to the school.

  2. The school will contact you to complete a student assessment and a parent interview.

  3. Wait for the results of the application (accepted, denied, waitlisted).

  4. If accepted, students and parent/guardian attend a new family conference and the student's spot is reserved.

Harbor Christian Academy practices a biblical philosophy of impartiality and does not
discriminate on the basis of race, color, national or ethnic origin in the administration of its
policies, admissions, tuition assistance, or any other school-directed programs.
